  Crème caramels... June 2011

So, a few people contacted me & said "Wow! Your food photos are amazing, what sort of lighting & setup do you use?" & I thought, 'thanks, I'll post details on my site... better take some pictures of my setups etc while I'm doing them...'

Hopefully these might give you some ideas for your own photography & perhaps a little insight into how I set them up, & while I'm by no means a 'top food photographer' I have been told that my shots are pretty good!

First off then is some Crème Caramel shot's I did, now, Crème caramel isn't the most exciting dessert in the world, but I thought I could take a few images for stock (& eat them after) & see what I could come up with. Keeping it simple, I dressed them up with strawberries, bought that morning, against a blue wooden background.

All shots were done using natural light from a patio window (pictures below) & a white sheet of card to bounce the light & soften out the shadows. Camera was over head for the shot in the middle & I used a 24-70mm @ 50mm, ISO 100 & 1/80s shutter. F-stop 3.5 (looking back, wish I'd used something like 7.1+ to get more focus).

As you can see in the other two pictures, I've set up my camera on a tripod (always), & I got in quite tight to fill the frame with the dessert using a 105mm macro lens, ISO 100, F-stop 3.5 (again) & 1/60s shutter.

Hopefully, when looking at these you'll be thinking "hmm, I fancy a Crème caramel right about now!"

I'll be keeping a (b)log of my shots from now on, so, if you'd like to see how they're done, check back...
